Deactivating pathInfo permalinks.

Hi,
In wordpress permalink documents, it is mentioned that to activate “pathinfo” permalinks the URL should start with /index.php but how can I deactivate pathinfo permalinks?? I tried all methods, none of them are working.
1)dashboard-> setting-> changed permalink setting by removing index.php.
2) added/ edited/ changed .htaccess file.
3) changed rewrite mod
4) set Alloverride all
5)enabled optiosymlinkeventhough it’s not working. Can anybody guide me on this please?

Im not sure exactly what your trying to do. If you want to use pretty links.
You need to login to wp-admin -> Settings -> Permalink
