Custom Book-Style Theme

  • Just finished my theme @ https://voidnoir.net/. I call it “The Chuck” simply for it’s utter greatness [/BRAG].

    Seriously though, if anyone would like to take a look and throw me your opinions, good or bad (preferably good), I’d appreciate it. ??

    I’m still doing some minor tweaking here and there so if you happen to find any bugs/design flaws I’d deeply appreciate knowing about those.

    So far the site is fully tested ONLY in Firefox 3.6.

  • It’s a clean and simple black and white book-style theme that is easy on the eyes. I love it. It is beautiful. It is a handsome theme. Thank you very much for sharing. ??

    One minor critique: In the interest of improving accessibility, I would recommend increasing the size of the topbar navigation because as it stands, the text in the topbar menu seems a bit cramped with minimal spacing between tabs and text.

    As an aside, I am a person who refuses to upgrade my web browsers (and their plugins) until the upgraded version is stable. Too many times have I upgraded or been forced to upgrade only to run into problems that made the upgrades completely not worth the trouble. At this moment, I am thinking about things like web browsers and Flash.

    Additionally, I run an older portable machine for doing non-heavy work and so…

    I always appreciate it when someone puts together a site that doesn’t need the newest of everything to look right. ??

    I made the top bar small in order to make sure everything would fit, but you might be right. I’ll play around with different sizes and paddings etc. for it later. ??

    Well it is XHTML 1.0 transitional and I do try avoid any “hacks” or such (actually only got two CSS tags that won’t validate). Unfortunately older browsers (like the dreaded IE6) have problems with today’s standards and are holding the web back, and when even sites like YouTube, Google and Digg are limiting their support for it I see no reason for me to put in the extra effort and mess up my code to support it.

    IE6 is just all around UGH and I agree; there really is no particular reason to let something like IE6 hold development back.

    I want to clarify and say that my commentary on using older browsers and machinery and the like applies more to using Firefox 3.0 instead of Firefox 3.6 and using Flash 9 as opposed to Flash 10 rather than using a legacy browser like IE 6 or something like Flash 5.

    I definitely don’t agree with letting a sorely outdated and non-standards conforming browser like IE6 dictate how web development should go at all.

    At the same time I also don’t agree with how some web sites and web applications are developed to only allow the absolute newest of browsers, newest of etc, access them.

    The release of Flash 10-necessary applications when Flash 10 was buggy as heck is something that comes to immediate mind. Users were forced to upgrade to a crash-happy buggy Flash 10 if they wanted to continue to use the service.

    But yeah. Enough rambling. Just wanted to clarify. ??

    I’d have thrown IE6 into the trashcan ages ago if I could.

    Hehe, well I don’t believe FF3 should have any problems with the css, I do however know that IE used to have problems displaying fixed div’s for instance. As for flash, I don’t use any at all so that shouldn’t be a problem. ??
