    Hi Tobias,

First things first, thank you for this incredibly useful plugin that should be a part of WP. I’m testing it for a web site that I’m creating for my photo club. While testing, I had an idea that could make the “Single Cell Content Shortcode” extension even more useful and powerful.

First, I’m assuming that we could introduce the idea of “row currently selected by the user” in a table (not sure whether this is doable – I don’t have much experience with WP). Now, if we could have access to the order number of this “currently selected row”, we could use the [table-cell] shortcode in order to dynamically access specific cells in that row (which is not known in advance).

This capability would be extremely useful in many situations. For example, we could automatically fill a form field with data from the selected row.

Maybe I’m missing something but I didn’t see a way to make row selection possible.

    Thanks in advance.

    MfG

    Patrick

    Hi Patrick,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

Unfortunately, I don’t see a way to achieve this easily. The main challenge here would be that Shortcodes are evaluated on the server, whereas the row selection by the user would happen in the browser.
Thus, a custom JavaScript solution (that works directly in the browser) should be a better approach, but I also haven’t seen existing approaches for that. Sorry.

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hallo Tobias,

    sorry for the trouble.

There’s no trouble. This was just a -not so brilliant- idea.

    Hi,

no worries, the idea is nice! I just don’t see a good way to implement this at the moment. ??

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
