Different postage costs for different product groups?

    I sell coffee beans on my website, which is different to the stock I hold, as it’s dropshipped from the manufacturer… would I be able to add in the cost for shipping coffee if someone adds that plus adds in other products on my website?

    Or… would I be able to prevent either coffee from being added or other products from being added if coffee beans are already present in the cart?

    If both are added, it means I am out on shipping for either coffee or other products.

    Hi there!

    Just to make sure we’re on the same page –

    Does all coffee ship at the same price? For example, if someone buys 1lb of decaf, will the shipping cost the same as 1lb of French Roast?

    Additionally, how do you have shipping set up currently? Are you shipping via Flate Rate, or are you using an API to calculate pricing (like USPS or UPS)?

    All coffee of the same weight sell at the same price, 250g at ￡5, 500g at ￡10, 1kg at ￡20… I use flat rate as I currently don’t have the funds to get access to the Royal Mail api.

    So I’d suggest putting all coffee into its own shipping class. This will allow you to define the shipping cost for the products specified in that class. The following docs go over how to achieve this:

    From what I’ve observed, while it does add in the appropriate charge for shipping class, it does so in addition to the flat rate charge already in place, so instead of someone just buying coffee being charged just ￡3.25, they’re getting charged ￡6.85 instead, which isn’t preferable for those just buying coffee. Is there a way around that, or am I just getting confused?

    OK, was just getting confused. Related question, I have shipping for coffees and teas setup for UK, but how would I exclude all other countries, due to high shipping costs?

    So this would take a WooCommerce extension to achieve. In this case, I’d suggest checking out Conditional Shipping and Payments, which will allow you to disable shipping methods based on the customer’s location/ what’s in the cart.

    There is, but again, it would take a plugin to achieve. I’d suggest looking through the www.remarpro.com Plugin Repo for extensions that allow you to add Table Rates to your shipping setup.
