    Hi,

Just started really and things seemed to be going swimmingly until I picked up on the permalink thing and tried to change to doing it based on month and post title.

So I changed it in my dashboard, and I am told “You should update your .htaccess now”

Now the trouble is I cannot find a .htaccess file anywhere, I have followed all the instructions about telling filezilla to show hidden files.

Now whenever I click a link on my blog I get a 404 error of page not found…..

    Can anyone please save me!

Right and I have just checked I dont even think there is a .htaccess file. I tried creating one and pasting the text from the dashboard message into it and uploading to the wordpress root.

Nada, it still says the .htaccess file isnt writable. I have tried changing the permissions for this created file to 666 and even 777 and wordpress still cannot write to it.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Arrgghhh….!!!

Well found out what the problem was, due to the complicated file sturcture provided by my webhosting company.

    All sorted now.
