I received a notification from Google Search Console that some URL’s on my website are marked as noindex. The indicated pages are the Woocommerce ‘my account’, ‘checkout’ and ‘shopping cart’ pages.

Although I’m not sure if there is any benefit of having these pages indexed anyway, I would like to get rid of these error messages so decided to check the index status in Yoast.

However, when viewing the properties of these pages in Edit ? Advanced, I see that all these pages are already set to be indexed (Allow search engines to show this page in search results ? Yes (default standard for Pages).

    https://stropellets.be/nl/mijn-account-nl/
    https://stropellets.be/nl/checkout-nl/
    https://stropellets.be/nl/winkelmand-nl/

When performing a URL-inspection in Google Search Console, I see that indexing is not allowed because a ‘noindex’ has been detected in meta tag ‘robots’. Where/how can I change this metatag ‘robots’?

I’m not sure if it’s related, but in ‘SEO ? Extra – Yoast SEO ? Tools’ I see that currently no robots.txt file exists on my website. Should I create one, and what should be the recommended content in that case?

We understand you received a notification from Google Search Console that some WooCommerce pages on your website are marked as noindex. Let’s clarify why you’re getting these errors.

The WooCommerce pages such as cart, my-account, checkout, are getting a noindex from WooCommerce itself, which will exclude them from the sitemaps and search results because they don’t have content or SEO value. Those pages only have content when a visitor adds a product to their cart (cart page), or when a customer is logged into your site (my-account page). It’s best practice not to have these pages in the search results.

We hope to have cleared things up for you, please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any further questions.

@suascat_wp Thank you for your feedback, this is clear to me know.

What I do not understand, however, is why Google’s very own Search Console marks this as an error, because I have no doubt that their AI is capable to identify the nature of such pages.

    Hello!

Thanks for getting back to us.

You’re seeing those errors in Google Search Console because the pages indicated are showing up on your XML sitemap. So you’ll have to remove them from your sitemap by setting a noindex meta on each of them. You may refer to this article.

@onlyincebu Thanks for your feedback. I have meanwhile removed these pages from sitemaps and submitted the URL’s for validation in Google Search Console. Now awaiting their confirmation.

@onlyincebu I just noticed that one of my pages (https://stropellets.be/nl/blog-nl/) is missing in the XML sitemap. I have checked Yoast settings but everything appears to be properly set. Do you have any idea what might eb the reason for this? Is there a way to check/correct this in Yoast SEO?

@gkwadraat We checked on your post-sitemap.xml at https://stropellets.be/post-sitemap.xml and confirmed that we see the https://stropellets.be/nl/blog-nl/ listed there (see image here).

    (@gkwadraat)

@devnihil Thanks for pointing that out to me. I’m now somewhat puzzled about why the https://stropellets.be/nl/blog-nl/ page is listed in https://stropellets.be/post-sitemap.xml, whereas the https://stropellets.be/fr/blog-fr/ page (which is the related French translation of that page) is listed in https://stropellets.be/page-sitemap.xml

    @gkwadraat

That looks odd. Can you please try resetting our indexables in the database tables by following the steps below?
    1. Install & activate the?Yoast Test Helper plugin
    2. Go to Tools > Yoast Test
    3. Hit the “Reset indexables & migrations” button.
    4. Go to SEO > Tools, and under SEO data, click the “SEO Data Optimization” button to allow Yoast to rescan your pages.

    Does the issue resolve?

Other steps you could try are:

    – Enable/disable the sitemap from SEO settings
    – Clear all your caching from your theme, plugin, server, CDN like CloudFlare or browser.

@suascat_wp Thanks for your feedback. I have tried all the options that you mentioned, but to no avail.

Moreover, upon trying to go to the proces a second time, I receive the following notification when trying to optimize SEO data in SEO ? Tools: “Oops, something has gone wrong and we couldn’t complete the optimization of your SEO data. Please click the button again to re-start the process.”

    This message keeps popping up.

We are sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with the sitemap. Even though the https://stropellets.be/fr/blog-fr/ is appearing in the https://stropellets.be/page-sitemap.xml sitemap, we can confirm that it won’t impact anything negatively to search engines as a sitemap only offers search engines to crawl all the links efficiently. So, as long as you have all the URLs in the sitemap, search engines won’t have any issues parsing them.

In regards to the SEO data optimization error, can you please check the browser console and network (tab) in the developer tools to see whether you can find any errors? A relevant screenshot would be very helpful for us that highlights the browser console and network (tab). How to include screenshots or videos?

We look forward to hearing from you.

@mazedulislamkhan Thank you for your feedback. Being completely unfamiliar with devtools, on which page should I be looking for errors, is that https://stropellets.be/fr/blog-fr/?

In that case, I cannot see any errors, see screenshots:

Thanks for your confirmation. You’ll need to open the Google Chrome developer tools on the SEO → Tools page before you run the SEO data optimization on there. To open the developer tools, you’ll need to go to Google Chrome’s View → Developer → Developer Tools options.

Once the developer tool is open, you can see Console and Network tabs. When you click on the SEO data optimization and once the error occurs, please switch to the Console and Network (tabs) and take two screenshots which will help us to identify the exact cause of the issue.

@mazedulislamkhan Thank you for your feedback. I have meanwhile temporarily solved the issue by restoring a backup, but assume that the issue may surface again. In that case I will surely use your directions to get a clear view on the issue. So please leave this topic open for the time being.
