New Categories not showing up in selection box in widget

    Hi,

    I really like this plug-in – both the shortcode and widget version are so useful to customize site pages.

    After several years of use, an odd problem has just popped up. I recently created some new categories on my site. When I added the rpwe widget to a sidebar, those new categories did not appear in the list box of categories to select.

    I’ve confirmed that the categories are valid. They can be called and display properly using the rpwe shortcode. They appear in other selection boxes within WP. They just don’t appear in the category selection box in the RPWE widget.

    I’m running the most current version of RPWE (0.9.9.7) on WordPress 5.3.6.

    I did note that RPWE hasn’t been updated since WP 5.1.8. Given how well RPWE works otherwise, though, this seems an odd problem to connect to WP level. You never know, though.

    Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

    I think I found the solution.

    Categories with no posts assigned to them (these can be identified by a “0” in the “Items” column on the Categories page) do not appear in the widget selection box.

    Note, however, that a parent category with no assigned items that has a child category which does have assigned items will appear.
