    Hi!
The button that shows my likes from WordPress.com reader always says “loading”. Please see the bottom of this post:

    https://bitesofbetter.com/healthy-chocolate-chip-cookies/

The comment section shows “loading” beside the blue stars as well. The Like button shows up fine when I use the www.remarpro.com Customizer to edit my site. It dissapears when I publish it. The issue always existed since I started my site a month ago.

I tried deactivating the Jetpack plugin and reconnecting it. I also contacted the support team for the theme that I use, as well as my hosting platform, to see if there are any external reasons. The problem wasn’t solved. They said it seems to be the plugin’s issue.

Following the advice from other forums, I tried deactivating every single other plugin one at a time to see which one was causing the problem. However, I deactivated all plugins and cleared the cache but the Like button was still not working. Please help!! Thanks~

    Hey @stellabitesofbetter,

    That recipe looks wonderful!

When I inspect the browser console for your site, I’m seeing a JavaScript error related to Google Ads. You can see this here:

    https://d.pr/i/ZCa2vG

Here’s some guidance on how to view this for yourself, if you’re curious.

I know you mentioned already deactivating plugins and consulting with your theme’s customer support: thanks for being proactive there. However, for this “Likes: loading” issue, it is almost always a JavaScript error caused by a bad plugin that has erroneous code, or the loading of an old or duplicate jQuery.js file.

Deactivation of the bad plugin or removal of the duplicate jQuery.js file should fix the problem. Did you try deactivating all of your plugins at once (except Jetpack) to see if the Likes button loads as it should? If not, I’d recommend doing that.

If that doesn’t reveal anything, I’d recommend pushing back on your theme’s support team and ask them to confirm for you that there are no duplicate or old jQuery.js elements in your theme.

If neither of those things do the trick, you may need to flush your server cache. Don’t hesitate to ask your host for help if you need it!

    _____________

A final note: it looks like your site is not properly connected to Jetpack right now. I’m seeing the following error in our connection debugger:

[1] => transport error: http_request_failed cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 15001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received

Usually this points to a problem on your host’s end of things, like poorly resourced servers or something blocking you from connecting to the WordPress.com servers. Can you make contact with your host’s customer support and see if they can tell you anything about why you wouldn’t be able to connect your site to Jetpack? Also, please ask them to do the following:

    1. Whitelist connections to and from *.wordpress.com.

    2. Whitelist the following IP ranges: https://jetpack.com/support/hosting-faq/

Please note that these IP addresses could change (or more could be added) at any time.

Once you’ve done that, reconnect to Jetpack:

Let us know how everything goes!

    Hi @jenhooks

Thanks for the quick and detailed reply!

Unfortunately I don’t know much about programming and I don’t understand what a Javascript error means. I will look it up and try to find out.

I will follow your suggestiong and try to deactivate all plugins except for Jetpack again. Is there anything else I should do after deactivating them? I only need to click “deactivate” on my plugins page, no need to delete them, right?

Thanks for letting me know that my site is not properly connected to Jetpack. I will definitely contact my host’s customer support and ask about the Whitelisting as well.

Another question, my dashboard shows that my PHP needs to be updated. Should I be asking my hosting provider about this too?

Thanks again!! Hopefully it works out for me soon ??

    Stella,

Yes, as a matter of fact, your host can help you (or at least point you in the right direction) on all of these issues: PHP updates, JavaScript errors, and whitelisting. ??

Please let us know the results of this troubleshooting and we can go from there. Thanks!
