Creating (and displaying (!) categories and subcategories

    Hi,

    I keep struggling with this so hoping for some help (I feel like a monkey looking at a watch).

    This is what I want and it should be that difficult:
    I want two main categories displayed on the above-mentioned page:
    Categories:
    1. Culture Matters
    2. Other

    Both main categories have subcategories (e.g. videos; audio; lists)

    I think I have done all that:
    The category Culture Matters has three subcategories; e.g. there’s a category called “Video” which I’ve set as having the Parent Category as Culture Matters; etc.

    At this moment the two main categories don’t even show up on the shop page.

    In Appearance, I’ve set Woocommerce to display Categories; the only thing I see then are products…
    Even when I add a shortcode [product_categories] on the Shop page it doesn’t do what I want.

    What am I missing here?

    At this moment the two main categories don’t even show up on the shop page.

    This may be just a cache issue. I checked your shop page and both Culture Matters and Other categories are showing on the Shop page – https://snipboard.io/Ll1ect.jpg
    Can you please clear your browser cache and check again? You could also try with another browser.

    Hi,

    I cleared my cache and checked on another computer (Mac/Safari): same result.

    Thank you for the screenshots. Looks like your categories and subcategories are created properly. Now, could you tell us where and how you want those categories to show?
    I’ve checked your shop page and I can see both Culture Matters and Other Stuff. When I click “Other Stuff” (for example), the subcategories are displayed just like your categories are set on the backend – https://snipboard.io/JRDHEK.jpg

    Hi,

    The current situation is that all categories are being displayed, including individual products.

    I think all my settings are set correctly.
    But they don’t result in what I want to see.

    I only (!) want to see two categories:
    Culture Matters & Other Stuff

    Under those two main categories, I want (and I think I have) put subcategories that will have their individual products.

    E.g. the main category Culture Matters should hold three subcategories: Video, Audio, Lists
    But at this moment everything is being shown.

    In the WordPress Appearance –> Customize, I’ve also set the Woocommerce to display Categories but it keeps on showing everything.

    Also, on the Shop page, I’ve added the shortcode [product_categories] but even that doesn’t do anything.

    Thank you for clarification. There are 2 settings pages I need you to go to:

    1) under Appearance > Customize > WooCommerce > Product Catalog, please check if shop page display is set to “Show Categories” and Category display is set to Show Subcategories – https://snipboard.io/Uvf5A1.jpg

    2) go to Products > Categories > Display Type, select Subcategories or products for each category depending on how you want to each category to show – https://snipboard.io/jAwRuK.jpg

    Hi,

    I’ve checked and double-checked everything you said.

    It’ shows some categories but not the simplicity that I’m looking for:
    Simply:
    2 main categories with all the other products either being in one of them (depending on where I want them.

    This cannot be rocket-science and still I don’t seem to get it right.

    I apprecietate your help, but I’m not getting anywhere with this…

    Hmm…that’s strange. I did the same settings as I mentioned previously, and categories and products are showing properly on my test site.

    Can you please check if the issue caused by a conflict with your theme or with another plugin?
