Recently my website has exhibited some flaky behavior when I edit pages. (These are normal edits, not using Yoast Duplicate Post.) Sometimes, but not always, when I finish my edit and press Update, I get a message saying the update failed to complete. If I load that page in my browser, it appears that the update did in fact complete. However, if I go back to edit the page again, I get a critical error. After some experimentation, I found that the only way I could restore the ability to edit that page is disable Yoast.

I can’t show the page where this is happening because it happens only in the back end. This is a pretty much plain vanilla website. The only thing that might stick out is that I’m editing legacy content that’s contained in classic blocks. Any idea why this might be happening?

  • Hi @creekdweller,

Thanks for bringing this up. We’re not seeing any similar reports about errors when editing pages with classic blocks, so we have a few questions:

    1. Are all your plugins and themes updated, including using the latest version of Yoast SEO (15.6.2) and WordPress (5.6)? If not, does updating solve the problem?

    2. Do you see any JavaScript errors in the browser console when you edit a page? If no errors appear in the Console, we also recommend checking for errors under the “Network” tab.

    3. Can you confirm that your site meets the plugin’s minimum requirements? You can find your site’s details by going to Tools > Site Health > Info in WordPress.

    4. Does this problem ever happen when only Yoast SEO is activated? You can check for conflicts by temporarily deactivating all plugins except for Yoast SEO and switching to a default WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty-One.

I appreciate the initial response and composed a reply but for some reason it didn’t post. I’m okay with marking the issue resolved even though I continue to have problems. Mainly I wanted to know if there were other reports of similar problems. Because the answer is no, I know I have to look elsewhere. Thanks again for the response.
