My homepage appears to be all messed up

Please disable any caching and/or optimization plugins you might have installed as well as the Jetpack CDN.

I have just deactivated Autoptimize, Fast Velocity Minify, Image optimisation service by Optimole, Jetpack by WordPress.com and WP-Optimize – Clean, Compress, Cache. Thanks

You have 3 plugins doing the same thing — autoptimize, wp-optimize, and fvm. Disable two of them.

OK, I have just reactivated WP-Optimize – Clean, Compress, Cache.

It seems to have sorted itself out and I have just reactivated Jetpack as it connects my blog to the homepage. Do you know what went wrong earlier on (which plugin might have been at fault)? Thank you

Having multiple plugins doing the same thing, especially something as sensitive as minimization and aggregation, is a sure recipe for disaster.
