• WordPress 404 on pages on fresh install.
Hi i was wondering if anyone could help or has come across this.
I am developing on XAMPP and have been for a long time but my latest WordPress install causes pages to be 404 unless the permalink structure is set to plain.
As this happened on a site that i had built out the homepage i deactivated all plugins and swapped back to 2021 theme but the issue still happened.
I then downloaded a completely fresh installation of WordPress with no added plugins and themes and the problem is happening as soon as i change the permalink structure to anything other than plain.
I have also installed a new installation of the latest XAMPP to see if the problem still happens and it does.
I have checked the httpd.conf LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so is not remmed out.
    htaccess look ok
I Have now put it up on a rmeote host (siteground) and the issue is still happening – link – https://lawes.testnuggets.co.uk/
I’m a bit stuck where to go from here.
Any suggestions would be appreciated – I feel like I’m missing something simple!

The queries used to get to a page have become corrupted for some reason. Telling WP exactly what to query for works, for example https://lawes.testnuggets.co.uk/?pagename=about-us. The culprit is usually the theme or a plugin. Switch your theme to a recent twenty* default theme and deactivate all plugins. Proper permalinks should now work. Narrow down the source of the problem by restoring your theme and plugins one at a time until permalinks again fail.
