Unfortunately I have to say that, in my opinion, the new plugin is crap. I don’t like it at all, from any point of view and I am deeply disappointed, you have complicated everything in vain.

But, I don’t want to give up AIOSEO because the old version is all I want and it’s wonderful.

So, I have version 3.7.1 in zip format and the question is which method is the best to not lose any setting, title or description:
    – via ftp
    – via wp plugin install

    What do you recommend?

  • I used this method:

Returned to the old version without problems. All page titles and descriptions are preserved.

    Thanks @dmitresku

The settings are left next to titles and descriptions or I have to resume them from scratch?

I have everything left as before. I didn’t have to do anything from scratch (but this is in my case, I don’t know how it will be for you).

Then the settings will probably remain.

    Thanks again @dmitresku !

If we go back to the old version then we lost our new data from posts.

@lahorimela The idea is to realize that you don’t like it before you use it … if you already use the new version it means you have no problems with it. If you have entered settings on the new version then it is very possible to lose them.

@dmitresku Thanks again, I installed the old version (3.7.1) and I didn’t lose anything, settings, social meta, titles, description, anything else.

For all those interested in returning to version 3.7.1 because they do not like what happened to this plugin, use the method recommended by @dmitresku

Access the link above, download version 3.7.1 in zip format, enter wp admin – plugins – install new – upload file. The installation asks you to overwrite the current version.

    @dmitresku and I didn’t lose anything.

All the respect for the work of the AIOSEO team, but, unfortunately, it seems that for those who have been working with the old version for years, the new version is not okay at all.

I still stay in the boat, but on the old version, without any regrets for the new one.

@djdaniel thank you for starting this topic and @dmitresku thank you for sharing that link.
I think all my presets in AIO SEO are back for now.

What made me crazy was realizing my site title and description reset after those new updates. That completely destroyed my SERP position. AIO SEO must warn people about this upcoming change but I assume they didn’t intend at all. Because their main motivation behind these upgrades looks like nothing but switching people to paid version.
So here comes the question: We preserved or rescued our old SEO presets, but is this method sustainable? As time goes by, this old version of AIO SEO might become more vulnerable to WordPress hacks. So, any of you have better ideas for the future, like switching to Yoast Jetpack or another seo plug-in long term?

@semak77 I already responded to you in your other thread to see if you’d like to work with us on getting your issues sorted, so feel free to reach out to us ?? but as a far as our motivation goes, I can definitely tell our main motivation behind this update wasn’t to get people to upgrade but rather to lay the foundation for a great SEO plugin we can continue to build on in the next few years.

The old plugin needed a rewrite badly because the codebase had grown to a point where it was difficult to maintain and fixing bugs only introduced more bugs. You know the story. We have really exciting plans for future but unfortunately there was no way we could pull this off with old codebase. The entire original team (besides for Michael) is still involved with this plugin and I can assure you that all of us are really passionate about this plugin (like, seriously), and we try to uphold the highest standards.

Issues like these are unfortunate since we tested the update for weeks with the entire team before releasing it, but there are many different setups out there “in the wild” (theme/plugin combinations, hosting environments, etc.) that we couldn’t account for.
