Different Domains on WordPress Multisite From Existing Installation

  • Hi There

    I’ve been asked to create a German version of the site above, using the domain id-3.de. My intention was to create a multisite, can I just double check that this is possible?

    I received the message because your install is not new, the sites in your wordpress site must use subdomains, but I do want to use a subdomain?

  • Yes, the difference in the two install types relates more to how the sites are added to the multisite before any domain mapping occurs.

    In your case, you should be fine.

    Just to add to this, I’ve now setup the multisite installation and domain settings.

    One final question on this topic, I need to copy the content from the original site across to the new site that I have created and added to the multisite network?

    Could someone advise on the best plugin or method of doing this?

    I’d just use the export/import functions in WordPress itself. Export the content from the ‘donor’ site and import it to the new would be how I’d do it.

    As far as translating goes… I have no clue there, but I think some people use a plugin to assist with that…
