Static Page does not work (yet another post like this)

  • my options are set as this
    Front page: – Welcome
    Posts page: – Job Listings
    yet when i go to the main page https://sample1.snappingturtle.co.za
    it takes me to the page that has the posts.
    my header is as follows

    I think it has something to do with my theme
    because when i load up the default wordpress theme its correct
    the front page is static and the other is where the posts are.

    could it be hard coded somewhere in the theme ?
    i just cant seem to find it
    and there is no home.php

    please can anyone help

    Does anyone know where i might be able to look, is it in the header ? or page that might be telling it to point to posts on the front page?

    I don’t think the moderator was telling you to update the code, rather to not post long passages of code.

    Try setting the permalinks to Default in Admin->Settings->Permalinks, and see if the problem goes away. Others have reported similar problems with pretty permalinks and a static home page.

    I just took a look at your theme. I think it does not allow a static front page. It appears to be made specifically for category browsing.

    At least, I could not get it to recognize a static front page on my test site.

    Hi Vtxyzy

    i tried to change the permalinks with no success.
    if it is designed to only use categories, would i not be able to take that part out and put in the code that requests the static page ?

    Erm, your “header” code does not have a doctype and contains parts of the body of a page. That can’t be correct. Also, use pastebin or something alike for long code snippets. Moderators tend to cut “über-long sourcecode”. ??

    Now to your problem: as far as I can see from your online-sample, your “Home” link points to “https://sample1.snappingturtle.co.za/Welcome&#8221; while it should point to “https://sample1.snappingturtle.co.za/&#8221;. Somewhat like a clear indicator that your “splash-page” configuration hasn’t been configured correctly.
