    Hello John,

This is more of a feature request and of course your valuable feedback.

Let’s say, for the sake if this request, that we’re dealing with a classified theme where end users post ads and upload images that are attached to their ads.

The ads expire after x days, in some case, I managed to redirect those expired ads back to the homepage, but the attached images linger on and cause soft 404’s because naturally the original post (ad) is no longer online.

    1) Would the plugin Redirection, eventually, provide an option to enable such feature to complete the redirection of those expired ads/posts AND the attachments linked to those ads? Or is it completely out of its scope?

1a) If yes, in your opinion, is this something that is beneficial from an SEO perspective or do soft 404’s, in this case scenario, not cause much harm?

I couldn’t say if it’s beneficial – it would really depend on your site, what the pages are used for, whether they get indexed, etc. You could use the 404 log to see if it’s enough of a problem to worry about.

The monitoring of posts will be improved in the future. I’m not sure if it will be able to also detect attachments in a posts though.

Makes sense, and yes the file attachments remains a challenge overall, I do rename the files automatically for SEO purposes and that’s where the missing images fallback fails, I think you’re right though, it doesn’t seem to be a big issue when I apply a Regex on the expired ads because it does handle whatever file attachments the post had or was linked to.

Thank you for your time and feedback John, enjoy your weekend.
