• I’ve been using D-Stats2 for tracking traffic on my site, but lately I’ve been wondering if it’s actually working right. So, yesterday I installed StatTraq. I’m getting a huge discrespancy between the two plug-ins. DStats says I’ve had 118 unique visitors today, while StatTraq is reporting 371.

In similar disagreement DStats says 363 hits, while StatTraq says 595.

I’m not so concerned as to why this might be happening. If I just knew which one I could trust, that would be fine. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

  • Most hosts provide some sort of stats package. You might want to see if yours does.
Perhaps that would provide some slightly more accurate stats.

I believe it’s because D-Stats2 only tracks pages that you manually put it’s code into, whereas StatTraq track all pages. So, let’s assume that you only put the D-Stats2 code in index.php, then D-Stats2 would only track unique visits to index.php, whereas StatTraq tracks unique visits to index.php, your archives, your categories, your RSS, each individual post, etc.

Aha! I didn’t remember sticking any code in when I installed D-Stats, but sure enough, there it is. So maybe that’s it. Perhaps it’s just not tracking as much stuff. The good news, of course, is that it turns out I’ve got more traffic than I realized. Maybe.

My advice is to just pick one of them.

My domain, using cpanel, has 3 stats methods. They don’t agree.

So I picked the one that gives me the presentation I like, and I try not to look at the other two.
