    Hi folks,

We’re using Discourse to power our forums and it’s integrated with WordPress via Discourse’s own WP-Discourse plugin.

I’d like the option to not have the Discourse meta content duplicated but I can’t figure out how to do that. Right now, the forum thread associated with the WordPress page is getting duplicated and I don’t want it to.

I recorded this two-minute video to show you how we have Yoast Duplicate Post configured and how it’s working with the Discourse meta content on a duplicated page.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

  • Hi @joelzaslofsky,

Many thanks for the details in the video. We’re not too familiar with WP Discourse, but it looks like the plugin is adding some metadata to each post that links it to the forum posts.

You can exclude metadata from being copied if you go to Settings > Duplicate Post and then enter a list of meta key names for “Do not copy these fields”.

If you’re not sure which ones to exclude, you can use a debug plugin likeDebug Meta Data to view the metadata names and values for an example post.

If you’re not sure or if this doesn’t work for you, we recommend contacting the WP Discuss support for more guidance. Hope this helps!

Ooooh. That’s a good tip about the Debug Meta Data plugin, Priscilla. Thanks!

I installed that plugin and found a number of Discourse related meta data fields. Unfortunately, after adding the meta fields to the Yoast Duplicate Posts “Do not copy these fields” option at https://theputtytribe.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=duplicatepost and saving the settings, the linked Discourse forum post data is still getting duplicated.

Here’s what I put in the “Do not copy these fields” option:

    publish_post_category,publish_to_discourse,update_discourse_topic,discourse_post_id,discourse_topic_id,discourse_permalink,discourse_comments_count,discourse_comments_raw,discourse_last_sync,wpdc_sync_post_comments,wpdc_auto_publish_overridden

I’m not expecting you to do anything more. I’m just doing some documentation so anyone else who has the same issue knows what I’ve tried and knows what I’m doing – asking the Discourse devs if they can help in some way.

    HI @joelzaslofsky,

Thanks for getting back to us about the meta field. We’ll keep this topic open for the next week just in case you have any other updates from the Discourse devs.
