    Hello everyone,

I have this really big issue when trying to change the domain of my website I have been working on for a client. First, I created a website under my domain name and just added /insernamehere. Everything was fine and propagation was a success; however, the url I am trying to work is ultrapunchneedle.com, but it keeps redirecting to martihub.net/ultrapunchneedle with a 404 error. It shows half of the work I did to the site, but nothing more. Another strange aspect is that the subdomain: wholesale.ultrapunchneedl.com is working just fine without any issues. I have contacted bluehost and no luck. I even went into wp-config.php and manually changed the urls, alas nothing has worked. I started with changing the url in the dahsboard, bluehost website settings, and cpanel, but nothing works.

    edit: this is a multisite

I have to have this website ready for the client by this weekend and I never ran into an issue before doing this. This is the first.

You need to change the URL’s in the database, and it’s not just as easy as setting a new URL (unfortunately).

Look for a good search-and-replce plugin that can do this for you. Search for the old domain and folder and replace with the new domain. You’ll probably have to od this on each sub-site that’s affected.

The one that I’ve used is Better Search Replace, so that’s a good starting point, but there’s others out there as well.

    When I looked at ultrapunchneedle.com I found a Wix site…

When I looked up ultrapunchneedle.com’s DNS I found 3 ‘A’ records for a Wix host on Wix’s own DNS server.

I then looked up the URLs you mentioned and they were either broken or missing…

I then looked up your martinhub DNS and found a server at Bluehost that doesn’t seem to recognize the URLs but did recognize https://martihub.net/ultrapunchneedle/ultra-punch-store/ and https://martihub.net/ultrapunchneedle/

The server was very slow responding though and gave a placeholder page for the first URL and a very slow page for the store itself.

At that point, I gave up figuring you’ve munged your own DNS to get those URLs to work locally or something and haven’t attended to the DNS yet or can’t at this time.

I did want to try to help you but there’s just too much misspelling or something going on here to really figure this out. I will tell you that you need to attend to the DNS and the Bluehost servers will need to know about the domains if you want those to reach your multisite from the greater internet. You’ll also need to watch your spelling and completeness when telling the multisite how to map this (these) site(s) to the specific site(s).

You will also probably need to attend to the name changes within the database as you test the URLs before client turnover. See @catacaustic reply above for more on that.

I have been talking to bluehost and they have reverted everything back to normal after breaking all three of my sites. I returned the ultrapunchneedle.com domain back to wix (where it originally came from) so that my client can have their website for the weekend sales.

Hopefully, the issue will be resolved but I am skeptical currently after I have delt with a handful of bluehost agents. I will keep you guys updated on how this pans out and will try the suggestions above to see if anything helps out. Apparently, they don’t support multisites and what not. So, I need to find another alternative for the main domain and the subdomain under one hood.
