Drop down menues in header file

I have drop down menues in the header. They are built via javascript. However when I load the site the menues don’t drop.
Thye are listed correctly in the ul li code and they link properly but they don’t show as drops. I also have the absolute path for the .js correct as well.
Any ideas?
