[Plugin: Wordbooker] Excerpt support

  • Hi,

    First of all – thanks for a great plugin – support seems quick and responsive too!

    It seems like right now, when posting to Facebook profile or a Facebook page, the only way to limit post length is to say post maximum first few characters as defined in settings.

    Would you consider adding Excerpt support as well, so that bloggers can explicity write a short and to-the-point summary of the blog post, rather than just have to go with the first few nn characters of the main post?

  • I can easily put in a check so that if you’ve populated the excerpt it will use that as the text instead – that would be very easy to do and wouldn’t need any extra options inserting – just a check that sees if the excerpt is populated and if so use that rather than the first x characters of the post.

    How does that sound?

    Lots of great news in the latest version, but I cannot find excerpt support anywhere? Am I missing something, or is there a hope to see this in a future version?

    Excerpt support (using the WordPress Post Excerpt Box) will be going in in 1.8 .. or if 1.8 is going to be a long time (which it might be) then it could well get bounced into a later 1.7 release as its not a huge amount of work to add.

    I’ve actually coded it in – took about 3 minutes.

    So if you’ve selected the Share link and provide an excerpt it will use that.

    If you’ve selected the Share Link and enabled the “Enable Extended description” then it will use that unless you’ve provided the manual excerpt. If you’ve provided the manual excerpt then it will use that instead.

    That will be going out in the release to WordPress later this evening (along with some bug fixes)

    There is a “beta” version linked from the wordbooker page on Facebook – it fixes a few bugs in the current version and adds excerpt support. Once a couple of people have checked it out I’ll push it up to the WordPress plugins server.
