When I get a sustained attacked from a user, I tend to block an IP range – does this only block access to the backend? Could someone within that range, stil, for example, submit a form from the website?

Hi @genowales, thanks for reaching out on this.

When an IP range is locked out, users or bots communicating from that range can no longer communicate with your site over HTTP/HTTPS whether that be directly in the browser or making a WordPress API request.

If you wish to lengthen the period you block these attacks out to prevent them trying again too soon, you’ll find the “Amount of time a user is locked out” value in Wordfence > All Options > Brute Force Protection useful.

    Thanks,

    Peter.
