Exceeding quotas

Within hours of quotas being reset, I get an error message indicating I’ve exceeded my quota. Could it be because I am using this plugin in a sidebar widget that appears on every page? I do not have restrictions on my API key mostly because I cant figure that aspect out and not being a developer at all, don’t understand the tutorials I’ve tried to follow.
Any thoughts as to whether using the plugin in a universal sidebar is causing the issue?
