Despite having a website on my own server (Brulosophy.com), I hugely prefer editing from WordPress.com, which requires Jetpack, rather than WP-Admin. A few weeks ago, as I was going to edit an article, I clicked “Add new post” and was redirected to WP-Admin editor. I figured it was a temporary issue, but nothing has changed.

I do not have an active WordPress dot COM website, I only have my self-hosted site, brulosophy.com, and I have no problems editing from WP-Admin. However, with Jetpack installed, I’m able to use WordPress dot com to check my stats as well as edit posts and pages, it’s what I’ve been doing for years and far prefer over WP-Admin.

After changing absolutely nothing on my end, whenever I use WordPress dot COM to edit posts (https://wordpress.com/posts/brulosophy.com), rather than opening up a new post with the white and light blue background on WordPress dot com, it now redirects me to WP-Admin.

I apologize for the redundancy, just trying to be as clear as possible. I will freaking pay someone to help me with this at this point!

    Thanks!

Hi! Thanks for the redundancy really. It’s never a bad thing to be clear.

And we’re glad to hear you like WordPress.com’s Calypso interface. It only uses the block editor currently, which is your own wp-admin editor. Is that what you’re seeing, or are you being asked to re-log in and what not too?

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s what I’m seeing. It used to be that when I’d click a post draft in Calypso, it’d open in Calypso and I could edit from there; however, now when I click the post draft, it redirects me to the standard wp-admin editor.

I’m not dissing the block editor, I get that it has its benefits, but I hate it, and now that’s it’s keeping me from being able to edit it in Calypso, I hate it even more! Haha.

Is there a way to somehow make it go back to how it used to be?

…I’m also having this same problem, have been for the last few weeks. Has there been a change to either Calypso or www.remarpro.com version of wordpress that made the editing of blog posts on a self hosted site currently unavailable via WordPress.com? I do not see any notifications or announcements about this.

Yes, the Classic Editor has been retired on WordPress.com so it’s not possible to use it to create/edit posts from My Site anymore. That’s why you’re redirected to WP-admin:

I have the Classic Editor plugin running and thought that might be the issue, so I deactivated it. Even after 20 minutes and multiple hard refreshes, I’m still redirected to wp-admin. I’d more than open to learning how to use block editor if it means I can edit in Calypso.

Please try disconnecting Jetpack from WordPress.com at Jetpack > Dashboard > Site Connection > Manage Site Connection in your site’s Dashboard, then connect again when prompted.

    This should fix it.

I was so hopeful, but unfortunately, this didn’t do the trick, I’m still being redirected to wp-admin rather than being able to edit in Calypso.

Could you confirm if this happens only for posts that are already in drafts or are you still redirected to WP-admin when creating a new post?

    Thread Starter brulosopher

    (@brulosopher)

@fresatomica – it happens when I click “Add new post” from within Calypso as well.

Hm, does this continue if Jetpack is the only active plugin?

I’ve tried deactivating various plugins to see if that changes anything, but nothing has worked. I have not deactivated all plugins except Jetpack, do you think that’s worth a shot?

    Plugin Support fresatomica

    (@fresatomica)

Yes, because it might be a conflict between Jetpack and another plugin. If Jetpack is the only plugin active and the issue disappears, you know that the problem is not with Jetpack itself but rather, how it interacts with another plugin.

You can then go on and activate the rest of the plugins one by one, checking if the issue reappers after each.

    (@brulosopher)

Alright, I deactivated all plugins except Jetpack, let things sit for a few minutes, refreshed a bunch of times over the course of another few minutes, and the issues remains – I’m still being redirected to wp-admin when I try to start a new post or edit a draft in Calypso.

Ok, please try deleting Jetpack specifically from the Plugins section of your blog’s Dashboard: https://jetpack.com/support/reconnecting-reinstalling-jetpack/#reinstalling-jetpack

This will clear out Jetpack’s settings, and it may work properly after a reinstall.

    Hi James,

Just fully deleted Jetpack then reinstalled – nada. Still being redirected to wp-admin.
