@drone540 – this issue is being caused by an Instagram API change which happened today. Unfortunately, this specific change wasn’t mentioned in their announcement and so wasn’t accounted for in a previous update to the plugin. We have pushed out an update now which should fix this. Please could you update the plugin and let us know if it resolves the issue for you?

    Apologies for any inconvenience.

    Hey @bridarmando,

While we have pushed out a fix that has solved the issue for photos, there are still issues related to video thumbnails that will be fixed early this week. Keep an eye out for this and should you have issues after the update please let us know. Thank you for your patience.

@drone540, thank you for letting us know it’s working on your end now.

Let us know should either of you require any further assistance.

    Many thanks.

After installing the latest version of the plugin and linking to my FB page, the oEmbed still doesn’t work on WP 4.9.15

The instagram post’s URL still remains plain text

    Hey @mocwp,

Thank you for reaching out to us for support. As this is related to something else in the plugin and we would require the System Info from your plugin which contains private information, please send us a support request on our website where we will get back to you as soon as possible.

    Many thanks.

    Hi guys,

The fix that you applied in 2.5.4 has caused two unwanted side effects

    1. Local cache is not used; all images are always fetched from Instagram by the client
    2. Full size images are fetched regardless of the setting for image size

This is causing pagespeed scores to be dragged down significantly.

    Any chance of a fix?

    Cheers,
    Jason

    Hey @galapogos01,

Thank you for reaching out to us. We have not had any other reports of this type of issue. We are also unable to replicate this issue on our end using the latest version. Can you open a support ticket on our site here so we can take a closer look at this for you?

    Hey @galapogos01,

Thank you for sending us a support request.

For other users checking this thread, the solution is most likely a combination of script minification as well as the Favor Local Images settings being disabled under Instagram Feed > Customize.

    Many thanks.

Thanks Joel. Per my reply the issue is not fully resolved.

The locally saved images are horribly optimised (nearly 200KB each) and Smash Balloon seems to be ignoring the setting to pull Thumbnail sized images.

Hoping we can work to an actual resolution in the support ticket before updating this thread again.

    Cheers,
    Jason

As per what Jason mentioned above, there is more to this issue. While there is no resolution per se, here follows some additional information.

Due to recent unannounced Instagram API changes, we have had to change the way we retrieve images and serve them. This includes now that there is no 150×150 image available from the API. If you enable the Favor Local Images as mentioned above, you should be able to use other plugins to compress the locally saved images, since Instagram only sends the full 1080 size image.

We are currently working on how we store, resize and serve images so for any users with this type of issue, keep a look out for any future updates to the plugin. Should you run into specific issues or you are unable to display images, please contact us via the support form on our website, https://smashballoon.com/instagram-feed/support/

    Many thanks.
