The title tags placed in Yoast are not pulling correctly into. They are correct when viewed on the website, but viewing them on Google (even in the unmanipulated state when searching site:domain.com) has title tags vastly different than what’s in Yoast. I realize that Google does rewrite meta data for results, but this appears to go beyond just that since the unmanipulated state is showing the issue too.

I also looked up Yoast’s information on this issue but none of this has applied to this situation.

Any thoughts on why this is happening and how to fix it?

@jlo7613 Are you able to provide the URL or an example page where you are experiencing this issue so that we can review it for any issues?

Whereas Google typically uses the title from the metadata for indexing, this is not always the case. Google will sometimes modify the title of the URL as it sees fit, as well as sometimes adding the brand or sitename to the end of your title. This is not due to the plugin not functioning as expected, but rather is due to Google modifying the Title it indexes as it’s algorithm has concluded that there is a better version to index.

Why Google chooses to determine that there is a better version of a title/meta description for a page is typically due to that it thinks that some other information would better inform a user searching what the content is on that page.

?If Google is ignoring the title or meta description you have created for a page and creating it’s own based off the page’s content, we would recommend creating new ones that try to better reflect the page’s content. Please refer to these articles as they include recommendations for crafting a page title which will help increase the likelihood that Google will use the title you specified, instead of it’s modified version: https://yoast.com/page-titles-seo/

    Hi Carl,

Yea, it’s the weirdest thing. I’m well versed in SEO and how Google treats metadata which is why I’m at such a loss. Not only have I created new title tags to see that helped the issue but the title tags fit not only to the content of the page but also the content of the site.

Here is a link to the unmanipulated site search site:wormwoodseo.com where you can also see the title tags I’ve added into Yoast.

Let me know your thoughts. Again, I’m totally at a loss for this. I’ve also tried uninstalling the plugin, reinstalling, changing the title tags, waiting a while to see if they re-index to no avail.

Thanks for your help and thoughts through this.

We looked at your site and as well as the Google search results and can confirm that Google indeed isn’t showing the correct SEO title for your website.

However, we can confirm that it’s not an issue specific to the Yoast SEO plugin as the plugin is generating the SEO title correctly as expected in the page source code. So, it’s specific to Google that isn’t showing the SEO title exactly how you want in the search results, and as you have mentioned already, Google does this very often.

That said, we recommend you to keep monitor the search results for your website as we believe once Google recrawls the relevant pages on your website, it might show the updated SEO title but this is something we cannot guarantee when it will.
