• I’m hoping I’ve places this in the right section, I’m looking to see if it’s possible to edit the layout and my options within the wordpress post screen itself – for example with the layout of categories/formats to having a quick link to insert pictures/text or other items.

I’m not sure if it’s a case of having to try and downgrade the update to an older version to get away from the current block system which seems to take over and I don’t find useful, but I was wondering if it’s possible to edit the layout of that screen.

The major purpose of the block editor is to give you the ability to manage the layout of the content area of (and soon to be the whole) a post or page. You can group blocks, save them to re-use on other pages, manage alignments, colors, etc. There are quite a few tutorials on this subject.
