• 1. Install reSmush.it and activate.
    2. Go to the settings page and un-check “Optimize on upload.”
    3. Check “Do not preserve backups.”
    4. Click “Save changes” button.

    Result:

If I use the back button on the browser and click “Save changes” button again. It works.

Reverse steps 2 and 3 works. Then after that, reversing steps 2 and 3 back to original steps above, causes the error again.

I can’t reproduce this on another site.

I never changed anything other than those 2 settings after I installed the plugin.

I disabled all other plugins and switched to default theme. It still does it.

I changed image quality to 80 and tried it and it will still do it.

This is not a bug. This is something weird with my WordPress installation. Whatever it was, it was throwing similar errors when emptying comment trash files with Powered Cache installed.

Powered Cache disabled did not help the reSmush.it error though, only the empty comment trash it affected.

I could not figure out what it was.

I rebuilt, deleted the entire site and migrated the rebuild to it and this does not happen now.
