getting a default “contactform” as the reply-to

    Since setting up my site to send emails via my WP Mail SMTP (integrated with SendinBlue) all of the emails from my contact form come in with “contactform” as the reply-to rather than the email address the user entered. Given the volume of emails I answer a day, pasting an address into every email’s reply-to box is a time-consuming issue.

    I’ve searched quite a bit for a fix and have found no fix so far. How can I configure my site so contact form emails contain the reply-to address as the user-entered email, like they did when I was using standard WordPress email configuration?

    The reply-to should be set from the contact form settings. Please follow the contact form email notification documentation or contact their support. WP Mail SMTP adds reply-to in a specific condition only. When you have ‘Force From Email’ enabled and the From Email in WP Mail SMTP is different than the From Email in your form, the From Email of your form is added to the reply to and the ‘From Email’ is still forced from WP Mail SMTP settings.

    I turned off “Force from Email” and the mail-send functionality stopped working completely.

    My contact form was working fine and has had no changes, except the activation of the WP Mail SMTP plugin. How can I resolve this issue and get reply-to addresses in my web form generated emails?

    Thanks for the details! Please turn on ‘Force From Email’ and make sure the ‘From Email’ in the contact form settings also match the From Email in WP Mail SMTP. In that case, the reply-to will not be added. You should be able to configure reply-to from the contact form settings.
