404 when installing from subdomain to root (no multisite)

    Hello,

    I’m running into an issue when attempting to install my duplicator package in the root of my website. The directory (/public_html) is empty except for .htaccess and several subdirectories for subdomains that do have wordpress installed (not multisite). Any time I navigate to /installer.php It then redirects to /dup-installer/main.installer.php and throws a 404, I’m assuming because that directory doesn’t exist.

    I am able to run the installer.php if it’s in a new subdirectory (e.g. /public_html/test) without any errors just not in my root directory.

    Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

  • Hey @shnzndl,

    I’m not 100% sure of your setup, but typically creating a sub-directory for each site is the best approach, in the event you want to add more sites in the future. But if the root is where you want it, then you might double-check with your host. Some hosts lock down the root directory with a tighter set of permissions than the subdirectories which can sometimes lead to issues.

    Thanks for the input! That makes sense. I do have a sub-directory for each subdomain but yes this is for the root site. I’ll reach out to my host to loosen up the permissions.

    What’s generally an acceptable level of permission to get the root directory set to?

    Hi @corylamleorg,

    Thanks for all the help! I got it sorted out. I first changed permissions to 755 on both public_html as well as the installer file and archive file but the key I believe was trying to access installer.php from incognito mode.

    I think I had been unable to force refresh /installer.php due to constant redirect. incognito mode solved that
