Only Pro can overwrite

  • Advertised as really simple to migrate sites, yet only the Pro version allows you to overwrite existing WordPress installations, which is what 90% of regular users will want to do. Most hosts have an installer that creates a blank WP site, which you would then install Duplicator on and move things over without having to create a database, fiddle with user permission or any of that. This is how WP Clone used to work and it was an absolute breeze. This is only good for advanced users with database and FTP access, or paying users. Uninstalled.

    Actually we agree with you and want to add that feature to Duplicator. Just a bit of background: since it was created, Duplicator has always worked by requiring one to install fresh. This really came from the core way WordPress worked – where it requires you to enter in the information to install and you’d go from there. Since we did feel there is value in overwriting, we added the feature to Pro a while ago with the intent of eventually updating Duplicator to include the same but we didn’t have a firm date.

    With that being said, we will be adding overwriting to Duplicator in the future since we know it’s important to some users. We have a few technical things to work out first, but it is coming.
