Google / sitemap ping

Sorry to hear about the problem. Yoast SEO has a feature to ping search engines each time a post is updated. As mentioned in this guide: https://yoast.com/help/submit-sitemap-search-engines/#ping, you should first submit your sitemap to the search engine.

If you’d like to confirm that the ping is happening, you’ll need to log or monitor outgoing HTTP requests to Google’s ping URL.

There may be some network monitoring plugins or services that can help with that.

so even when Google registers the ping and reads the main sitemap (/sitemap.xml),
Google doesn’t seem to also re-new the sitemaps inside (/page-sitemap.xml),
the Last read column stays unchanged.
Google had to be (manually) pinged for that page sitemap (/page-sitemap.xml), too, in order to let Google refresh also it. After manually pinging for the page sitemap, the Last read column finally updated to today’s date.
It seems that Google doesn’t update nested sitemaps on ping for the parent sitemap.

While we are not sure why the last updated status hasn’t been changed for you, we do know that Yoast SEO pings Google as soon as you publish or update a page on your site. However, it’s still up to Google to decide when to crawl the relevant page and update the content on the index.
