SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON dat

  • Encountered this issue after updating a handful of plugins.

    I’m unsure which plugin caused it and I can no longer log in to my dashboard as I’m greeted with an console error page in Firefox, and the HTML code page in Chrome and Opera.

    Firefox console error as per title:

    SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON dat

    Front end seems to be working fine however.

    What would be the best way to diagnose & repair the issue?

  • It will be the wordpress admin plugin. I updated it yesterday after it tells you to in the console area and then bam it throws this up. I have deactivated it but it is still doing it and I cannot access any online orders to update their status or even view them.

    I ftp’d in and renamed the plugins folder, reloaded the admin page and was able to log in. I then renamed the plugins folder back and reenabled the plugins one by one without issue. ˉ\_(ツ)_/ˉ
    Still don’t know what caused it but it’s all working fine again.
