Pattern usage in phone number validation

I am trying to use pattern for Phone field in the email verification plugin , just like I would use in html . I want a 3 digit number and I have used the pattern [0-9]{3} in the pattern input box. But its not working , the field is taking all values and not just a 3 digit number. Need help .
