I believe this is the right topic/area to post this in. If not, feel free to move thread.

    @everyone
I’m hoping for some advice on where to go from the multiple dead-ends I’ve been ending up in with what seems to be a fairly simple task.

This is the task at hand:
    Copy/clone hartfordrents.com over to old.hartfordrents.com (source is Drupal 8.7.6)
    Then copy/clone migrate.hartfordrents.com to hartfordrents.com (source is WordPress 5.4.2)
Then edit robots.txt on old.hartfordrents.com to add disallow site crawl script.
Then edit robots.txt on hartfordrents.com to remove disallow site crawl script.
    End result:
Have the current live site backed up live on old.hartfordrents.com
Have the WordPress site sitting both on migrate.hartfordrents.com & hartfordrents.com (migrate for testing purposes).

    Seemingly simple enough.

I have logged into our cPanel.
I have launched the WordPress Manager by Softaculous which shows all of the Drupal 8 & WordPress 5.XX site installs.
I navigated to all site installations and selected hartfordrents.com, then selected clone. Then selected old.hartfordrents.com as the source.
This was all per instruction from the web host HostGator representatives as they said that this will copy all data including the databases over.
This process hung for over 24 hours at which point I have reached out to HostGator telling them about the issue.
I restarted the procedure and kept getting errors. (Could not read the config file & SSL Certificate not found).
I tried removing the old.hartfordrents.com subdomain and recreating it even though both old.hartfordrents.com and hartfordrents.com show having SSL certificates.

Reaching out to HostGator again only leads to them telling me that they do not support/help with site “cloning/copying” at this time due to the volume of requests or something to that nature.
After explaining to them that I do not need support with “cloning/copying” but simply need the functions of the Hosting to work properly, they escalated the issue where I was to be told the same thing unfortunately.

Any guidance on how to achieve this would be greatly appreciated!
I’ve tried to search for guides online, but most seem to be vague in explanation.

  • To copy WordPress to another I use Webmin to save the Database then I open that file in TextPad and do a search and replace all for the URL change. Save it then use Webmin on the other server to put that saved database in it.
