My site was moved by my host and afterwards showed an error related to wordfence waf. I read the instructions and deleted the references to it in user.ini and htaccess.

The error message went away but now my site is blank – nothing shows up when loaded.

Hello @rsv-blog and thanks for reaching out to us!

Do you use any caching plugins? We might need to reset Wordfence if you recently have moved.

https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/remove-or-reset/ is a great resource for completing a reset or migrating to a different host.

Let me know if this helps!

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I tried the instructions at that link and removed all references to Wordfence and renamed all the directories of WF.

I still get a blank page when trying to access my site.

    Hello again @rsv-blog

So you completely removed Wordfence from your site and you’re still getting a blank screen? Is every page blank on your site for you or just the admin login page?

If you manually disable Wordfence by renaming its plugin directory to something like wordfence.bak does it resolve the issue?

    Let me know!

    Thanks!

I did everything I read about disabling WF. I edited the database and removed all those tables, renamed all directories of WF to something else. I edited out the WF settings in user.ini and .htaccess

I get a blank page when I go to the site and cannot get to an admin page.

    Hello again @rsv-blog

Since you are removing Wordfence and still having the issue, it makes me think something else is causing the issue. Have you tried renaming your plugins folder to disable all the plugins and then test? It sounds like it could be a plugin conflict as well.

Navigate to httpdocs > wp-content > plugins. Rename the plugins folder to something else. This will disable all of them. You can then move them back into the plugins folder one by one until you find out which one is causing the issue.

I hope this helps! Let me know if it does!

    Thanks!

Thanks – I tried that already. My web host has restored a previous version for me, and now I am just having trouble updating to the most recent version of WP. Hopefully all gets sorted out soon.

    Hello @rsv-blog

Now that you have been reverted, try the previous steps again to reset Wordfence and install the latest version.

Can you please follow these instructions:

    • Log in to your site via FTP/SSH or any file browser your web host may be providing.
    • Locate the folder “wordfence” in /wp-content/plugins
    • Delete the /wordfence/ folder
    • Go to WordPress Plugins page and install Wordfence. Activate (the new) Wordfence.

This should retain your settings as well but you can also export your settings just in case.

https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/remove-or-reset/#remove-or-reset is a great reference for resetting or removing Wordfence.

Let me know if this helps!

    Thanks!
