There were no registration page or ‘opt in’ checkbox when plugin was activated but it started to track immediately.

Redux follows the same approach that Jetpack (owned by Automattic) and other plugins use. By activating you create an account and opt in to our tracking. If you look at the original banner, as seen here, you can clearly see that information.

Creating an account is not required to use Redux at all, but some of the newest features (such as Google Font updates and access to our Gutenberg Templates) require it.

I hope that answers your questions. That is literally what we display front and center before you activate. You’re welcome to read our terms. ??

@ram108 There nothing here that needs a forum moderator to act on. Please do not report this topic as a “Guideline violation”. There is no forum guideline violation here. That’s what the “Report this topic” link is for.

For any plugin guideline violations, please send an email with the details to plugins[at]www.remarpro.com and that team will investigate. Do not just send them a link to this topic, give them details in email please.

I’ve no idea what this plugin does but that statement is false. That is not at all what Automattic’s Jetpack plugin does.

Jetpack is a plugin that interfaces with a service and that is why it is “Software as a Servcice” (SaaS). It is not for tracking use, it is for being allowed to use WordPress.COM’s servers and features on your self-hosted WordPress installation.

Creating an account is not required to use Redux at all

Then you need to make it clearer that this is 100% voluntary and optional. I installed your plugin on a test server and this was what I got when I activated that plugin.

Which I was able to dismiss (thank you for that) but the language is a little uncertain to me that I can use the plugin without an account.

Just a reminder @jdembowski this is what Jetpack does as part of their setup screen: https://cldup.com/9mLojabzIG.png Looks fairly similar doesn’t it? We followed their example. If this is a problem, perhaps there is a larger discussion that needs to occur here.

It is not required to activate Redux to use it. The access to our SaaS offering is limited if you do not activate an account, just like Jetpack does.

Not here, but with the plugins team via email. If you are unsure then there’s no reason you (the developer) can’t send them an email yourself.

Plugin activation is definitely not consent to tracking, even if you wrote about it in your rules.

WordPress Guidelines unequivocally say that any tracking should be turned off by default and turned on only by checking the checkbox in plugin settings. This is so called ‘opt in’.

Hope this issue will get resolved and unwanted tracking will be removed.

@ram108 It is turned off by default. Activation is not necessary for use of Redux, just as it is not required fully for Jetpack.

I’ll add a feature to deactivate your account through our admin panel. I really appreciate the feedback!

@dovyp It have to be absolutly clear that “the Activation” is Turning On Tracking in you plugin. There is no notice that I will be tracked. I am sure that most of 900+ thousand users of you plugin do not know that they are tracked.

In the modern world, such surveillance is absolutely unacceptable.

You should not only warn users that they are being tracked, but also turn off tracking for everyone who has already installed the plugin.

@ram108 To increase the clarity I have made the following changes for any “activation” touch points.

I hope this makes it much more clear for you and others.
