• Hi everyone,

I just upgraded my 2.7.x Version manually to the new 2.9. Seems to work fine, except for this:

On the right side, I usually see the content which I chose in the widget setting in admin area. Now, this is only the case when I don′t activate plugins which use this space for use with their information, for example Last.fm and Flickr. When I turn them off, I will see all the default WordPress widget information (Blogroll, Archive, Searchbar, etc.). But even then, I can′t configure what to see and what to hide.

    Any help someone?

    Thank you!
    Gernot

  • Sounds like you have a bad plugin somewhere. Try deactivating all plugins and then re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

I had a similar problem. did your blog name chage back to the default “My Blog” as well?

When I deactivate all the plugins, the WP default widgets are to be seen on the website. Still, I cannot edit the arrangement of the widgets, which is usually done at “Appearance>Widgets”.

If I activate a plugin which uses the same space on my website, the WP defaults are gone and I have only that plugin′s widget.

I guess there is something wrong with WP settings concerning the widgets!(?)

My blog name did not change, it′s like before.

Keeping all the plugins deactivated, try going to Appearance > Widgets, and then, in the upper right corner, select Screen Options and try disabling Accessibility Mode

    Thank you, that helped!

I deactivated all the plugins, then I selected the screen options. Actually, there were no options to choose, but the normal widget arrangement view came back then. I could arrange the widget as supposed to with drag and drop. I re-activated plugin after plugin, now it′s all normal again.

sorry to post again, but something isn′t still right.

I can′t explain why, but I still encounter the missing widgets. I have to deactive certain plugins to have the normal widget view and options.

It doesn′t matter if I turn on accessibility mode or not.

Is there a way to reset the way how wordpress deals with widgets?

these are the plugins which have to be turned off to get any widget control:
    Light Social
    Smart Youtube
    Twitter Goodies
    Twitter Widget
    Viper′s Video Quicktags
    WP to Twitter

I don′t think that these plugins are incompatible with WordPress 2.9, I guess there is something wrong with the way my wordpress installation handles widgets.

    any ideas?

If you lookup those plugins you will find that some of them are not yet tested compatible with 2.9, and there are others claiming that some of these plugins are breaking as well. It is most likely a plugin, or combination of plugins, which is breaking the widgets. You’ll likely find that, of the plugins listed, some of them can still be enabled and the widgets will work, but enabling other certain plugins will break it. For example, Twitter Widget is compatible up to WordPress 2.5 and I would not be the least surprised if it was breaking things. (and perhaps others as well)
