My site shows posts in chronological order, rather than reverse chronological order. How can I use, or modify to use, DD Last Viewed to bookmark for my readers which post they last viewed? Alternatively, is there another plugin that accomplishes this?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

You mean you want to change the order?

It’s possible to override the widget template in your theme’s directory.

Customise the widget template by copy the file “dd-templates/lastviewed-widget.php” from the plugin directory into your theme directory. You can now start customising the widgets template.

    Good luck!

Thank you for the reply, but unfortunately, I am not a programmer. Let me describe my issue again. The normal post order is reverse chron, for example: the order of posts woudld be 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 from most recent 5 to oldest 1. I want to order my posts in chron, for example 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from oldest at the top 1 to newest at the bottom 5. My blog is a story with new episodes posted. When you read a book, you start with chapter 1 and proceed through the chapters. That is why I want episode 1 at the top so the reader will proceed down through the episodes. Assuming that a reader had read episodes 1, 2, and 3 on their previous visit to my site. I wanted to remind them that they last read episode 3 so they know to start on episode 4, just like you would have a bookmark in a book at the end of episode 3. With 5 episodes, this is not a big issue, but with 10 or 20 episodes, remembering where you as the reader left off is a bigger issue. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

In my example with the episodes in order of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, my understanding of DD Last Viewed is that it will return episode 1 as last viewed because it thinks the episode post at the top of the list, episode 1, is the most recent adn I want it to think episode 5 is the most recent.

Then you dont understand the working of this plugin. It shows the recently visited posts by the user in a widget. That’s all!

What you want, as I understand, is to change the order of your posts in generally. Then you need to update your posts query inside the theme and fix it over there, for example by ordering on ID.

But….you are not a developer you said. I can imagine it will be hard. For you, I can recommended to update the publishdates reversed, and you will get wat you want! You make your highest chapter the eldest publishdate and you are there!

This plugin won’t do that trick for you because it’s written for a total other functionality. But still it can be use full for your visitors, because it just shows his/her last visited posts.

    Hope it helps and goodluck,

    Wouter

Thanks again for the reply. I’m not asking about the order of the posts. I have the posts (episodes) reordered as I want them through another plugin. So, using my earlier example, they are already in order 1 (Prologue), 2, 3, 4, 5, chronological order. But, DD Last Viewed is not returning the last viewed. It always returns episode 1 (Prologue) on my site. Please take a look at townhousealley.com. DD Last Viewed widget is in footnote 1, left side. I’m trying out a different plugin in footnote 2, middle, and its results are also not what I expected. Any further thoughts are welcome. See the contact me page in the menu if you prefer to correspond by email directly. Thanks.
