I have updated 2 sites today from v3.1.1 to v4.3.9. In both cases Gravity Forms was installed and support for Gravity Forms checked on in WP Zero Spam v3.1.1. After updating to v4.3.9, plugin was disabled with message “The plugin zero-spam/zero-spam.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist”

I can activate manually, but in settings support for Gravity Forms has been checked OFF.

I have several dozen websites to update, and would prefer to update through my ManageWP dashboard, but obviously I would still have to check each site to make sure plugin is activated and support for Gravity Forms checked ON.

What other information can I provide to help figure out why plugin disabled and GF support turned off?

There was a bug where when upgrading from v3.x to v4.x the plugin would deactivate. That has since has been fixed, current being version 4.4.0. Plugin integrations default to enabled if you have any active.

If the plugin was hard deleted from a directory vs. the admin (delete plugin). This doesn’t allow the uninstall function to run which clears out all zero spam settings. So when installing/activating again, those setting will persist.

Try upgrading to the current version. If that doesn’t work, the setting most likely is stuck in your DB. You can check by looking at the options table for wpzerospam%.

You can also try deactivating the plugin, deleting it (all through admin), and then reinstalling it.

I have the same experience as before going from 3.1.1 to 4.4.0: plugin gets disabled, after activation I must check Gravity Forms ON again.

These are all different websites, different databases. It sounds easier to me to just do the manual updates and setting changes than to rummage around in the database.

I also just pushed a fix for a GF issue some people were seeing (v4.4.1). Hopefully, that takes care of the problem for you.

Unfortunately upgrading from 3.1.1 to 4.4.1 is the same experience as before.

I’d be happy to dig into it further. I don’t have the latest version of GF since it’s a premium one so unable to do a lot of testing. If you’re able to send me the latest version with a key… or donate (https://benmarshall.me/donate/) to help continued development so I can purchase these premium plugins, I can look into it more.

Unfortunately, it’s like taking your car to the shop saying there’s a weird sound, but when you get it there, nothing happens. Can’t fix what I can’t reproduce.

Good news! Someone was able to provide me with a key.

I found the issue, tiny typo. Quadruple-checked & all appears to function as expected. Thanks again for the help in testing. Fix will go out in the 4.5.0 release within the next hour or two.

Ben, thanks very much for your diligence in working on these issues. I just updated a site from 3.1.1 to 4.5.0 – it still deactivates the plugin, but when activated the GF setting was checked ON.

Good to hear! Those tiny little bugs can be hard to track down sometimes. The upgrade may still deactivate depending on the host & how the site is setup. Couldn’t really be avoided with the rewrite, but do have a fix for some sites that do that. Unfortunately, doesn’t sound like your site is one of them. I apologize for that, it’s all in the name of progress though!

Unfortunately I’m getting more spam with the latest version of Zero Spam and will revert to 3.1.1 for now, which seems to keep the spam at bay.

Everything else up to date, WP 5.4.2 and GF 2.4.19. Using Genesis 3.3.2/Infinity Pro

Can you provide me more info (i.e. the URL of the form where spam is coming through, what’s contained in the spam, the version of Zero Spam)?

Zero Spam 4.6.0, latest when I wrote, I see it is now 4.7.0. Added BotScout API, still getting spam.

Having trouble sending information about recent spam, both that just came in have non-nice URLs, one is in Greek. This forum flags that information. If there is a way to send a screenshot of spam, happy to do so.
