    I use the multiplication symbol × which indicates a hybrid
    However when I export this table the × is converted to ?—
    Is there anything you can do about this?

    thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

    How and in what format are you exporting the table? Where do you then see that wrong character?

    I do apologise, I think it is Excel that is the problem!
    I have looked at it in Notepad and it is OK

    I have to do all this palaver in Excel:
    Open Microsoft Excel 2007.
    Click on the Data menu bar option.
    Click on the From Text icon.
    Navigate to the location of the file that you want to import. …
    Choose the file type that best describes your data – Delimited or Fixed Width.
    Choose 65001: Unicode (UTF-8) from the drop-down list that appears next to File origin.

    Hi,

    yes, that explains it. Excel for some reason doesn’t take into account the character encoding when opening a file by “double-click”. It’s then necessary to go though the procedure that you describe.
