how to reduce the size of the site-info block in the footer to one or two colum

Hi i am trying to put a menu in the footer but the site info block extends the full width of the footer despite only having the site credits in it. as any added items must sit on top of the site info block the addition of the menu increases the depth of the footer making it look ridiculous. I need them both to sit on bottom row so the footer does not get as deep any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated
