    Hi I’m new to Woocommerce and online retailing

    I’ve set up a very small store – 2 virtual products – and been testing the payment collection.

    With Stripe I can see the money in my Stripe account. The order says that payment has been received but the order is shown as Processing rather than completed

    With PayPal, the money is taken from the Customer’s account but isn’t appearing in my PayPal business account. Initially I had the wrong email address in Receiver Email and got a message

    Validation error: PayPal IPN response from a different email address (wrong email). Order status changed from Pending payment to On hold.

    I corrected the setting and now when an order is paid for through PayPal, the order goes on hold and I get this message

    Payment pending (unilateral). Order status changed from Pending payment to On hold.

    The customer’s PayPal account has been debitted but there’s nothing in my business PayPal account and the order is shown as on hold.

    So 2 questions:
    1. Why doesn’t the order show as completed once the money is recorded as having been received?
    2. Why is PayPal taking the money from the customer but not crediting my account?

    Havr I missed some set up step?

    Your second questions appears to answer the first question. You mention the money hasn’t been credited to your account, so the order is not yet complete. I’m hoping that solving question #2 will result in a completed order.

    2. Why is PayPal taking the money from the customer but not crediting my account?

    That would be a question for PayPal directly. You can contact them with the Transaction ID number found on your Order details page, and they should be able to track down where the funds are with that.

    Thanks for the very quick response.

    I think I’ve sorted PayPal – I’d missed an account verification step and that now seems to be working OK.

    With Stripe – I have the money but the order is shown as processing, does that mean that there’s some connection not set correctly for the Stripe Set up and that the ‘order’ doesn’t know the payment is in my Stripe account?

    Glad to hear the PayPal issue has been sorted.

    As for Stripe, the “Processing” status is expected if the product includes shipping, as WooCommerce is waiting for a shipping action to be taken.

    If the product does not involve shipping, it can be marked as a “Virtual” product, and the status should be set as “Completed” as soon as the payment goes through.
