Margins for ALL content

Hello!

I’m working on a blog with the Vigilance theme and have created a content background (using #wrapper, #header, and #footer), but now the text runs right up to the edge of the background-giving it a very unprofessional look. How can I add a “buffer zone” to the text? I just want to be able to extend the solid colors more to the left and right.
