Couldn’t sign in – Deleted theme via ftp – now nothing.
    Pretty much says it all.

I was using the “Cover” theme. It was up and running but I couldn’t find any place to sign in.

Went in via FTP to the server and deleted “Cover” from ‘Theme’directory.

Go to the web site now and there’s nothing.

I rather foolishly thought the default theme would kick in.

    All help appreciated.

  • You should be able to log in to your wp-admin area and enable a new theme as the admin area is not dependent on your site theme.

Your admin area is located at:
    https://yoursiteurl.com/wp-admin/
or if you installed WordPress in a subfolder, it would be:
    https://yoursiteurl.com/subfolder/wp-admin/

Thank you. Up and running and now looking for another theme.
    Greatly appreciated. =)

Always leave the themes default and classic uploaded so that there is a fallback theme.
(Supposing the default WP theme was not installed, otherwise the site would have fallen back to that).

i have the exact same problem but with autofocus rather than ‘cover’ theme

however, deleted the theme does not revert back to default.

i am using yahoo as host. is it because of caching by yahoo, or… that falling back to default is not always the case… for whatever reason.

Adrian, can you still login and select the default theme under Dashbard/Appearance ?

I just tested this. That is I deleted my theme through ftp while I was logged in and viewing the site. I refreshed the site after the delete and got a blank screen. So I logged out (in the other TAB in IE), refrshed the sie, still blank.
Opened a new instace of IE, went to my site, still blank.
Logged in in the still availble login window, refrshed the site view, still blank. Then went in Admin to Appearance: screen reads, “The active theme is broken. Reverting to the default theme” and only then a refresh let me view the site in default theme.
Tried this also in different browser windows, but the reverting to defualt only took place AFTER logging in and going to Dashboard/Apperance. No actions taken there; just the openening of that admin screen was enough.

So if you need to login from a link on your site, instead use this:
Your admin area is located at:
    https://yoursiteurl.com/wp-login.php
or if you installed WordPress in a subfolder, it would be:
    https://yoursiteurl.com/subfolder/wp-login.php

I changed my theme and took off the sign in link, now I have no way of accessing my admin to correct the mistake. How can I access my admin page without the sign in link on the site. I tried the yoursiteurl.com but see no area to log in to an admin area.

Sorry my problem is solved thanks a lot
