    Hello, guys.
I am having this issue for a few days now and it really drives me crazy!

I usually publish several new pages each day for my site. After a few days off, when I started publishing again I noticed that the first page is published normally, but every next page becomes a revision of the first and goes under the same ID and title.

At first I thought that this issue was caused because I usually post two pages with the same title each time, each with different parent page (this issue hasn’t happened before in the 5 years I have been doing this anyway), but I noticed it happens no matter what the title of the page or even if I choose a different parent page.

English is not my first language so, if something is not clear, please let me know.

Really looking forward to any help and thank you for your time in advance!

  • Hi there!

On which pages you are getting problem. I have checked your few pages, but they are working fine and all they have a different id. ??

Hello, Animesh, thanks for your reply!

Yes, the last published pages are from before the issue started.
After that, I have trashed all the others, because they were not working as they were supposed to.

    Thanks,
    Andreas

    Hi there!

So, are you still getting the problem?

To help you with the issue, I need to first see where is the issue and what is the actual issue?

Can you please recreate the page? ??

Hello again, Animesh. Thanks for getting back.

Yes, I am getting the problem for the last 10-15 days and it’s driving me mad!

Well, I just created 3 new pages for you.

    The titles are:

    Support Test Number One
    Support Test Number Two
    Support Test Number Three

They all went under the same link: https://www.thefontsmaster.com/support-test-number-one/

When I check revisions I can see the different text I put in each one.

Another thing I noticed that may be important is that every time I clear my browser’s cache and cookies I can publish a new page normally and the issue does not appear. I have tried with another browser and the same thing happens.

    Thank you,
    Andreas

    Hi there!

Can you please tell me how you are creating pages?

Also, please check and confirm if your created pages are available in the Pages section in WordPress Admin Area?

Click on Quick Edit option below the title of the page and check what is in slug, plus send me the screenshot. (Like this: https://prnt.sc/szmxph)

You can use https://prnt.sc/ to upload and share the screenshot. ??

Hello, Animesh. Thank you for your time.

I have been creating my pages in the same way for the last 5 years.
I go to: Pages > Add New > Add Title > Add content > Select parent page > Publish.
After one is published, I do the same for the next one.

As I mentioned earlier, every page after the first one becomes a revision, so the title changes, the slug remains the same as the first one’s and there isn’t a new page created.

    Here is the screenshot: https://prnt.sc/szn6mh

So no matter how many new pages I create, only the first one will appear in Pages. And if I go to Edit that one, all the rest will appear as revisions/

    Here it is: https://prnt.sc/szn8yi

    Thank you,
    Andreas

    Hi there!

    That’s a weird problem!

Okay, I want you to do some more checks.

    1. Are you having that problem only when you are creating a page under the parent page?

    2. Create a backup of your site, and deactivate all the plugins (DO NOT delete them, only deactivate them), now again try to create pages and see if the problem still exist or not.

    3. If the problem still existing, now I want you to switch your website theme to default WordPress theme Twenty Twenty (DO NOT delete your previous theme, only just switch to Twenty Twenty AND DO NOT activate your plugin, keep them deactivated for a moment) and again try to create pages and see if the problem still exist or not.

    4. The last question: When you have started to notice that problem? After updating the WordPress, theme, any plugin, or anything other?

    Thread Starter TheFontsMaster

    (@thefontsmaster)

    Hello, Animesh.

    1. No, the problem appears even without choosing parent pages.

2 & 3. I have already disabled all plugins AND switched to Twenty Twenty and the issue still happened! Isn’t it crazy?!

    4. Well, now. The thing is that a friend of mine created a Python script for me to automatically create these pages and make the process faster for me. We tested the script and it worked normally the first time. After that we noticed that the pages created by the script had the issue we are dealing with now. I also tried to publish some pages manually but the issue still appeared. I can’t imagine how the script could have messed up the whole WordPress installation on my site. After that, I restored a backup from the day BEFORE we used the script and the issue was still there. Do you think that this script may have caused the problem? And what are the possible solutions?

    Thank you again!
    Andreas

Do you think that this script may have caused the problem?

Yes definitely! The problem is coming from the script.

Where you have applied those scripts?

Did you check if the script is still there? If it is there, please remove the script.

Also, I would recommend you do testing of anything only on the staging site first if you are not confident so that your main site can never be caught in the problem.

I can see you are using SiteGround. Here is the tutorial on creating a staging site on SiteGround: https://www.siteground.com/tutorials/staging/

Animesh, the script was executed locally on the PC. No code was added in my website.

But now it is on website. Right?

    Have you checked?

If it not there and still causing the problem then you have to uninstall and reinstall WordPress again.

This is the process of Uninstall and Reinstall WordPress: https://bit.ly/3e4c8uD [DO THE PROCESS CAREFULLY]

But you can also approach to SiteGround support for more details on this. ??

    Thread Starter TheFontsMaster

    (@thefontsmaster)

Animesh, how does it get on the website if nobody adds it?
I mean, we execute a batch file and the process begins. Does that add something to the website?
I will contact SiteGround and ask if they can do this, while I wait for your reply ??

    Thank you again,
    Andreas

If you have implemented those changes on your website mistakenly then yes that is causing problems?

Can you please tell me all the processes, how you have exactly executed the file?

Here I have very limited resources to check because I have no backend control on your website, also sharing private info like email and password is the violation of the forum guidelines, so I’m providing you the direction only on your statement. ??

    Thread Starter TheFontsMaster

    (@thefontsmaster)

    Thank you, Animesh!

Well, the process was simple. Only thing I did was double click on the batch file and the script was executed. It had access to admin login and password and created those pages for me.

I really can’t imagine how it could add something in the WordPress code, but the whole thing is too confusing for me!

    Thank you,
    Andreas

At this point, I will highly recommend you contact the SiteGround and tell them all the incidents to check if there are any changes that happened in your WordPress.

I’m sure there is some problem and might reinstallation of WordPress would help you but first, contact the SiteGround support. They can better assist you in this.

If required, I’m always here for you. ??

Don’t worry, your problem will be resolved.
