I have two blogs running in different add-on domains of my website, so on the server they are sitting in different subdirectories of my main site.

On the first blog, I switched to pretty permalinks with no problem, after updating .htaccess. However, I was slightly surprised at the time that .htaccess was not in the subdirectory for the add-on domain where the blog resides, but one level back, on the public_html folder of my main site. I hope this makes sense …

OK, so now I am setting up my second blog, which is running fine except when I try switching to pretty permalinks. I have pasted the required code into the same .htaccess file, which is the same one used by the other blog because it is back a level rather than in the folder of the blog. Is this the problem? What can I do about it? Or, is there something else I’m missing?

    TIA!

  • The .htaccess file should be in the subdirectories for each blog. You’ll need to create one for each blog. You’ll also probably want to talk to your host about your setup and make sure the .htaccess files are processed in the sub directories.

Thank you – I think this is sorted. At least, it now works on the blog where it wasn’t working!
