I run a multisite. Subdomains. I use Smart Crawl. The sitemaps are being generated but Google doesn’t know about them when I check in Google Search Console. I have to manually add each subdomain and I had to manually add the sitemap for the main domain.

Is this supposed to happen automatically?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello @doncoryon

    I hope all is well!

Each subdomain is treated as a separate site by google, so every subsite should have its own sitemap.

Please ensure that robots.txt file includes a link to a sitemap.

From Smartcrawl > Settings > General Settings, under Search engines make sure to add your Google Veririfcation metatag. Please see this screenshot:
    https://monosnap.com/file/RxNW4ym5nj9UdvWRUKRiyyln1P7vLD

After this, go to SmartCrawl > Sitemap > Settings and enable options under “Auto-notify search engines” for Google or/and Bing. This will automatically submit a sitemap to Google. Otherwise, a sitemap needs to be submitted manually.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

Does SmartCrawl generate the robots.txt file?
However, I checked and the robots.txt file does indicate the correct path to the site map. https://aroono.com/robots.txt

    Auto notify was selected.

The meta tag entries were blank. Is that was is stopping it from crawling the sitemap?

    Hello @doncoryon

    I hope you’re doing well!

The SmartCrawl created a robots.txt file only when Robots.txt Editor is activated.

To enable this option, please go to the SmartCrawl > Advanced Settings > Robots.txt Editor.

The meta tag entries were blank. Is that was is stopping it from crawling the sitemap?

That is right, the Verification meta tag needs to be added for auto-notify to work ??

Let us know how it went!

My dashboard says that sites was submitted, even though I don’t have the meta tags filled out. Is that an error?

Also, how do I go about getting this meta tags?
