I have been attempting to migrate our WordPress content from Hostgator, our old host, to Siteground, our new one. We are using the Siteground Migrator plugin, and I was able to do everything up to the actual transfer. It has been stuck on the following message for over an hour:

    Website Migration in Progress
Transfer started. Creating archives of files…
    (empty progress bad)

This should only last a few minutes. I contacted support chat, disabled/deleted (after which my whole site was a 404 page I was logged out, fixed after a few minutes) redownloaded the plugin and used a new migration key, and the same problem is happening. The siteground migrator log looked like this both times: [13-May-2020 02:25:32 UTC] INFO: Transfer started. Creating archives of files… [13-May-2020 02:25:32 UTC] INFO: Updating transfer id. [13-May-2020 02:25:32 UTC] INFO: Updating transfer psk.

The support told me I was unable to use the plugin (they were unable to tell me why) and have to do it manually. I am trying to contact Hostgator to no avail. It’s frustrating because we pay for the service, and I have absolutely no idea how to manually migrate it without messing it up.

Anyone know a fix for this? I looked it up, and some people say it might be a permissions or security error.

  • Have you done the migration? Your website can be manually transferred best using FTP. You can contact a developer to do this for you or look up freelancing websites for developers.
