• Hello,

How can I assign a post to multiple subcategories.
For example category is “fabric manufacturers”.
    Subcategories: cotton, wool.

If certain manufacturer is manufacturing both wool and cotton, i want that post to be assigned to both cotton and wool subcategories.

    How do I do this?

Or such a basic requirement is only possible with plugins or special development?

    Thanks

  • Hello,

I’m not sure I follow. In theory, you would check both Cotton and Wool if you want the post to appear in those subcategories. Could you expand upon your specific site and how you expect it to work please?

If those checkboxes are there available in default WP installation, then great.
As I come from times some years ago when I could not assign one post to 2 categories.

Yeah, the built in post categories are hierarchical which are all checkboxes. Post tags is an input box you can pretty much type whatever you want into. If you have a custom taxonomy then you’ll want to make sure it’s hierarchical.

    It should be 100% possible.

    When you mention tags.

Is it possible to choose how tags operate, as in to pick one of the options:

    a) When you click some tag, you get all posts (from all categories) that have this tag
    b) when you click some tag (while you are in certain category) – you get only posts from that certain category (that have this tag)

    ?

That sounds like plugin or custom code territory. I think the categories and tag widgets just link to the clicked terms respectively. Maybe something like Search & Filter plugin can help in that regard.
